The International Rose Test Garden Portland is home to the oldest official continuously operated public rose test gardens in the United States. Tucked on 4.5 acres between the Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, the zoo and the rest of Washington Park, the International Rose Test Garden -- home to over 10,000 plants and 550 varieties.  Each year hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world enjoy the sights and scents of the gardens. One of the most popular of Portland’s Parks & Recreation locations, the garden’s spectacular views and more than 8,000 roses make it one of Portland’s most notable signature landmarks.

The annual Rose Festival occuring each June is a 97-year-old tradition that hosts an estimated two million people each year. Some travel thousands of miles just to experience this month-long civic celebration where there is fun and entertainment for all ages.

The best time to visit is from early May through Columbus Day, and often into November.  Hours: Daily 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Admission: Free
